In these final sequences of Part III of the Book of Acts, the second phase of Paul’s missionary journey continues through Macedonia before moving on to Greece where he spends a brief time in Athens before a more extended stay in Corinth. Despite the divine intervention in Philippi in the previous sequence, which focused attention on the evangelisation of the Gentiles, Paul fails to follow this up but reverts to his earlier practice of devoting his energy first and foremost to the Jews in the synagogues. In Athens, his wellknown attempt to speak to the Gentiles meets with little favour; it is only in Corinth, after fierce opposition from the synagogue, that Luke records more successful efforts to include the Gentiles as well as the Jews in his preaching activity.

Both B03 and D05 continue from the participles ἀποταξάμενοϛ καὶ
εἰπών with a finite verb ἀνήχθη, which is linked by ἀλλά to the previous
main verb ἐπένευσεν. While a01 reads δέ, many other witnesses read an
adverbial καί, which is not at all usual practice in the MSS other than
D05.
The masculine article in D05 in place of the feminine seems to indicate
that Ἕφεσοϛ was referred to by both genders, as was Κόρινθοϛ (Bailly,
L-S-J). At 18:26 D05; 19:17; 20:16, the article is feminine.
18:22 καὶ (ἀναβάϛ) D, et d 1831 gig syp.h || om. B P74 a rell.
D05 has a connective between each of the three aorist participles
(κατελθὼν καὶ ἀναβὰϛ καὶ ἀσπασάμενοϛ), but B03 omits the first one.

D05 again connects participles with καί, διερχόμενοϛ καὶ ...
ἐπιστηρίζων. The compound verb in D05 echoes the use of the same verb
with reference to Peter (11:2b D05), Paul with Barnabas (14:22), Paul and
Silas (15:41).
