Yet, the use of tele,w in John’s Gospel for prophetic fulfillment is unlikely for several rea- sons. (1) Although tele,w and teleio,w are from the same word group, Gundry correctly notes that, “the use of teleiwqh|/ with ‘the Scripture’ rather than the corresponding form of tele,w combines with the exact correspondence between tete,lestai in v. 30 and the same in v. 28 to disfavor a finishing of Scripture in v. 30” 37.
